This cozy Italian restaurant and bar greets guests with a warm, inviting ambiance and tasteful decor, featuring an open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs expertly craft each dish. It’s the perfect blend of casual comfort and refined dining, making it a standout destination for both everyday meals and special celebrations.
Dalton’s menu is a vibrant celebration of classic and contemporary Italian flavors, featuring standout dishes that promise to delight the senses. Start your meal with the crispy, golden Fried Calamari or the tender Grilled Octopus, both bursting with fresh, briny notes. The Mussel’s Red and Zuppa Di Clams offer satisfying, savory bites infused with rich, aromatic broths that warm the palate. For the main course, the Veal Limone melds citrus brightness with tender veal perfection, while the Seafood Risotto and the Special Sea Bass with Broccolini, Charred Cabbage, and Sweet Potato showcase the kitchen’s skill in balancing texture and flavor.
Heartier fare such as the Meatball and Sausage on Fettuccine and the perfectly cooked Ribeye Steak cater to those seeking rich, robust tastes, while lighter yet comforting options like the Gnocchi and Shrimp Florentine offer delicate indulgence. And no meal here is complete without a sweet finale — the Chocolate Lava Cake and house-made Churros deliver a luscious, melting moment of satisfaction. Pair your meal with signature cocktails like the zingy Blood Orange Martini or the refreshingly bright Lemon Drop for a perfect balance of flavor and fun.
The intimate size of Dalton’s means it’s advisable to book ahead, especially on weekends when the space fills with a welcoming hum of conversations and laughter. Guests consistently praise the warm, attentive service that adds a personal touch to every visit, making each meal feel like an occasion. As one diner shared, “Everything from the first moment we walked in was perfect. Great vibe, exceptional food. We can’t wait to go back.” Another reflected on the restaurant’s thoughtful accommodation for dietary needs, especially gluten-free options, highlighting the staff’s care and attention.
Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, enjoying a night out with friends, or craving expertly prepared Italian comfort food far from the ordinary, Dalton's in North Branford offers a memorable dining experience that quietly redefines what a strip mall location can offer. It’s a hidden gem where vibrant flavors, heartfelt hospitality, and a lively yet cozy atmosphere come together beautifully.
What a special gem where it's not expected. Wonderful service, delicious entrees . I took one of my friends to celebrate her 65th bday. I had mentioned it to the service and was hoping they'd give her a cupcake or something small with a candle to cheer her up (she's been down lately) but I guess they didn't have a small dessert .
Despite its unassuming location in a strip mall, this place is a true hidden gem! We visited on a busy Saturday night, so thankfully we had made a reservation. The restaurant offers a variety of seating options, including high-top tables, a bar with 14 stools, booths, and lower tables with chairs. Our party of five was seated at a cozy round table near the entrance, which was perfect for our group. The prices are reasonable, including both the appetizers, salads, main entrees and cocktails. We kicked things off with a selection of martinis, all priced at $12. Our server shared a range of specials, and one person in our group decided on the winter salad, while another chose the Chilean sea bass. The rest of us selected from the regular menu for our orders. If the ingredients are available, they're happy to accommodate special requests. I asked if I could substitute the veal for chicken in the Veal Limone, and they had no problem accommodating the request. The dish featured egg-battered chicken, layered with prosciutto and mozzarella, all served in a tangy lemon white wine sauce. It came with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. The portion was quite generous, leaving me with enough to take half home after enjoying a warm roasted beet and arugula salad with gorgonzola, candied walnuts, and a Meyer lemon dressing. My friend's Veal Limone was incredibly tender and full of flavor. The grilled lamb chops, served in a red wine mushroom sauce with baby root vegetables and mashed potatoes, earned high praise -- he practically wiped his plate clean. My husband's seafood risotto, featuring mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, and scallops in a pomodoro truffle sauce with a hint of cream, was absolutely divine. I believe him as he did not share a bite! The last dish ordered was the Chilean sea bass special, served with clams and spinach in a light broth. It was exactly what my friend had hoped for based on the server's description, and she said it definitely lived up to its flavorful promise. The presentation was also impressive. I suggest a visit although make a reservation so you won't be disappointed as it's a popular restaurant
My real rating is 4.5 stars but sadly we can't do that. This place is wonderful. Do not let the fact it's in a strip mall type place fool you. Everything about it is great. It's a small place with very tasteful decor. They also have one of those open kitchens, so you can see right in to where they prepare the food. I heard it could get busy so I made a reservation for Friday night. We were seated right away (and there were a few empty tables nearby so we might have been fine without the reservation). The hostess and our waiter were both nice, so no complaints there. First up, you get bread and garlic knots with a VERY garlicky dipping sauce. The knots were great and the bread was warm and tasty. I loved the sauce but my husband thought it was too much garlic. For our appetizer we got the stuffed calamari special. The stuffing could have been warmer, it was barely room temp. But the suace it was in was piping hot, so that helped. It was a wonderful appetizer and a very generous portion even for two people. When they brought the side salad we knew we'd be in trouble because we were already getting full. No idea what the dressing was but it was delicious (although we could have done with a little less of it). For our mains, my husband had the Linguine Dalton - pasta with lots of seafood. It was a wonderful light and delicate flavor. I got the Salmon Dalton - it was divine! Sadly we were too full to have dessert but we loved this place so much we will definitely be back!
Living right down the street from here for 20+ years. First time here. Everything from the first moment we walked in was perfect. Great vibe, exceptional food. We can't wait to go back.
Excellent! Being gluten free is very hard. From looking at their menu to having GF chic marsala - this restaurant exceeded our expectations. Clearly GF was marked on the online menu. The waitress handled the change in cooking and double checked for me. The salads and dessert was very good. Best of all..the Raseberry Martini. Yum Make a reservation- it’s a small place.
Fantastic dinner, ordered the specials. Braised short rib with shrimp and string beans over risotto also ordered sword fish with lobster sauce over risotto. Both were amazing. Great evening.
What an excellent experience. The restaurant is a bit on the small side with bar seating and a dining area. I recommend you try to get reservations to ensure you get in. We started dinner with some amazing Italian bread served with some garlic chimichurri sauce, it was delicious. For or entrees I had the ribeye special served with spinach and asparagus which was cooked at a perfectly medium rare temperature. My girlfriend had the special veal and pork ragú over ravioli. She loved it. Or meals were so good, we highly recommend. To end the evening we had the stuffed chocolate churros. Personally, I could have gone with just simple churros (no chocolate) but it was good. The service was excellent, she did a great job of answering or questions and providing suggestions. We will definitely be back.
